There is another side to Lefkada, far from its busy beaches and familiar tourist routes. A mountainous, green and largely unexplored Lefkada, shaped by old footpaths, small villages, landscapes of remarkable natural beauty, and routes that reveal the island’s history and distinctive character. This lesser-known side of the island lies at the heart of Lefkada Trails by Colin Cooper, presented by Fagotto Books on Friday, 18 September 2026, at 19:30, at the Public Library of Lefkada.
Lefkada Trails is a contemporary hiking guide, but also an invitation to discover the island in a different way: on foot. Through routes across Lefkada’s inland areas, mountains and lesser-known landscapes, Colin Cooper brings to light a side of the island that often remains unseen by visitors, highlighting the richness of its natural and cultural heritage. Taking the book as a starting point, along with the author’s long-standing personal connection with Lefkada, the event aims to open a broader discussion on the importance of hiking routes and traditional footpaths for the island’s future.
How can these trails contribute to the protection and promotion of Lefkada’s natural and cultural heritage? How can they support gentler, more sustainable forms of tourism, attract visitors with different interests, and help extend the tourist season beyond the summer months? The discussion will also focus on the need to document, preserve and reconnect Lefkada’s old paths with contemporary life on the island.
