The serenades (kantades) accompany the gatherings of friends at local feast days, in the tavernas at weekends and on New Year's Day, with unfailing good cheer and their happy disposition. The best known company is called Agiomavritiki parea. The kantada-serenades are still heard thanks to the Orfeas Friends of Music Association, which has sections for mixed choir, mandolin orchestra and dance group, the Pegasos folk dance group and the Nea Chorodia music and dance society which has a music school, a choir, dancers and a mandolin orchestra that organizes a 'Varkarola' every August.
