Perfect for families with small children as it’s always sheltered from wind and waves. The imposing Agia Mavra Castle keeps a watchful guard over the refreshing, deep-blue water and luscious, glimmering, pebbled-specked sand. Like a golden sand tongue that extends into the sea, and so thus named, Ammoglossa offers an impressive spectacle from above and is a popular subject for aerial photographers.
It’s also the beach closest to Lefkada Town, just across from Agia Mavra at Lefkada’s land entrance, and easily reached by bicycle, or on foot, in about 15 minutes. During summer months, municipal buses run along this route 4 times a day. If you prefer to drive, there’s free parking available though space is limited. There’s no natural shade or facilities here, so no matter how you come, make sure to pack a beach-umbrella or tent. You’ll find a great canteen that serves juicy burgers and refreshments across the road from the beach’s entrance.
