A wild and stunningly beautiful coast of golden sand and fine white pebbles, Egremni consistently figures among the Mediterranean’s top beaches. Its refreshing milky blue “Caribbean” waters and towering all-white terrain is rivaled only by Porto Katsiki.

The 2,5 km beach stretches along Lefkada’s southwest coast and lies approximately 40km from the capital. There is no bus service but, as of 2021*, Egremni can be reached both by land and sea. To take the land route, follow the scenic winding road that starts a few kilometers south of Athani. After you park, you’ll need to walk another kilometer and descend about 400 stairs to reach the beach. The staircase is brand new and quite wide but descending and especially ascending it, might be a strain for families with young children and less-than-physically-fit people. In any case its best to avoid arriving midday when the sun is hottest. Don’t forget to bring a hat and wear comfortable walking shoes. If you prefer an alternative approach, you can visit Egremni on a day-cruise or rent a private boat.

If you’re looking for a cosmopolitan beach with sun loungers and waiter service, Egremni isn't for you. A great part of its charm is the absence of facilities, so make sure you carry whatever you need for an enjoyable beach day: an umbrella or tent for shade, water and snacks. There is limited natural shade near the cliffs but avoid sitting too close as there is always the danger of rocks coming loose. Care should also be taken in the sea as it both deepens suddenly and can sometimes become quite rough.

Stay until sunset to enjoy the spectacular beauty of the horizon seeped in bright pink and orange hues, an unforgettable sensory experience.

*For several years Egremni was reachable only by boat but now the land route has been restored and the stairs replaced.
