But a rejuvenating dip in the sea will make you quickly forget the effort and immerse you in the splendid embrace of mother nature.
Kathisma
An endless sandy beach with astounding and irresistible ultramarine seas. Add to that a lively, cosmopolitan aura and you’ll understand why this coastline has a dedicated following. The beach attracts a mainly young crowd and is fully organized with sun loungers, umbrellas, beach bars and restaurants offering a full range of services to visitors. Try to come early if you’re here in July or August as it can fill to capacity, especially on the weekends.
Agios Nikitas
If you’re looking for the quintessential beach, you’ll find it on the coast of Agios Nikitas. Its dreamy shore of silky sand, peppered with tiny pebbles, stretches along translucent emerald seas perfect for snorkelling, so don’t forget to pack your gear! Much beloved for its picturesque scenery and close proximity to Lefkada’s Old Town, Agios Nikitas is also a top destination for families and anyone who prefers the calm seas of an always sheltered cove. You won’t find much natural shade on this pristine beach so it’s best to bring your own.
Mylos
Lush vegetation stretches to the shore of this stunning sandy beach. The cyan cove, that until recently was visited strictly by locals and very few informed travellers, can be reached by footpath or boat from the village of Agios Nikitas. No longer an insider’s destination, Mylos now draws a more mainstream crowd.
Agiofylli
It’s impossible to capture the magic of this place in words. Agiofylli is a tiny, almost hidden beach wondrously laced with lush vegetation. The idyllic scene is made complete by the crystal waters and impressive submarine life waiting to be discovered, so don’t forget to bring your snorkeling mask. You can reach the beach by boat from Vasiliki. Get an early start if you want to beat the crowds.
Vasiliki
Vasiliki is an international destination for windsurfers on account of the region’s prevailing winds. It’s also preferred by families with kids because of the shallow waters and sandy seabed. Here you’ll find an abundance of beach loungers and umbrellas, snacks and refreshments, proper food and a variety of water-sports for a gratifying all-day experience.
Pefkoulia
Embraced by a lush pine forest that stretches to the coast, Pefkoulias is the lesser-known gem of Lefkada’s west coast. Bathe in its pristine cyan waters and discover the bohemian charm of this off-the-beaten-path beach. Once a popular free-camping spot, Pefkoulias now offers a section with sun-loungers and umbrellas. If you prefer to bring your own shade or just lay in the sun, there’s plenty of room. If, again, you prefer skinny-dipping to wearing a swim suit, you’ll find a welcoming environment at the far end of the beach.
